Both of these trucks are powered by Isuzu engines. One just happens to have 3 times as much hp and 5 times more torque.

The Isuzu deal ended in the early 2000's. And it was a joint deal. That Duramax in that truck is all GM. Also, the Hombre is just an S10. So that engine is also all GM.

It’s easy to see how they cross pollinated. Very similar size and shape.

Eons ago, my dad had a ‘78 Isuzu Chevy LUV... the original engine made it to 160xxx miles before it bit the dust. We took my Mazda Ford Courier up to a place that was a repair/parts place for trucks, including - you guessed it - Isuzu and brought home a crate engine for the LUV. Naturally it had to be ordered, but as a teen I was amazed that a diesel truck place was able to get an engine for a Chevy built by Isuzu...

That truck would be terribly slow with the diesel. The stock gas 2.6 is very torquey and easy to drive.

The LUV had a 4 cylinder, 1.8 liter gas engine. The replacement that we got was actually the same block, but a 2.0 liter. No matter, it was still slow...
